Already a record-shattering blockbuster, Johnny Depp's sequel, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," earned $62.2 million in its second weekend, raising its 10-day total to $258.2 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.
The movie has quickly become the year's top-grossing film, rocketing past "X-Men: The Last Stand," which has taken in $232 million in eight weeks. The "Pirates" sequel has grossed an additional $125 million overseas.
"It's really fun when you're riding a comet like this," said Chuck Viane, head of distribution for Disney, which based the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies on its theme park attraction. "This thing is just unbelievable. It creates its own wake."
This time around, Johnny returns as Captain Jack Sparrow and is caught in yet another tangled web of supernatural intrigue. It turns out, Captain Jack owes a blood debt to the legendary Davey Jones, ruler of the ocean depths and captain of the ghostly Flying Dutchman. If Jack can't figure a crafty way out of this one, he'll be cursed to an afterlife of eternal servitude and damnation. And as if that weren't enough, Captain Jack's problems throw a huge wrench into the wedding plans of the blissful Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann, who quickly find themselves thrust into Jack's misadventures.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest tells what happens when it comes time for Captain Jack to repay a debt he owes to the Davy Jones, ruler of the ocean depths and captain of the ghostly Flying Dutchman. If he's unable to pay, he'll be cursed to eternal damnation. As you might expect, Captain Jack's problems complicate the wedding plans of the blissful Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann, who quickly find themselves thrust back into Jack's misadventures.
Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom and Geoffrey Rush are all back for the sequel. They're joined by Stellan Skarsgard, Naomie Harris and Bill Nighy.
